I am going to share a moment of my life with you; most of you will probably find yourselves remembering a similar experience as you read this.
My 7 month old baby is teething BADLY. He is having difficulties falling asleep, is on a nursing strike and is fighting a cold. This means that Mommy, me, has to spend much more time with him to try to get him to sleep as he is not easily lulled these days. I was upstairs trying to rock, swing, and nurse him for about 15 minutes. My 3 year old was in the living room downstairs playing with the TV on. I heard him talking to himself and I would not have thought that he was doing what he was doing. I Finally got my baby in his crib-CRASHED (YAY) and went downstairs. There was my 3 year old with soot ALL over his face and hands. I cleaned him up and told him not to go near the fireplace (as he has heard 100 times before). I do not keep the fireplace tools around BUT I do keep the soot bucket near the fireplace; not a great idea, I found out, with a preschooler in the house. He decorated my living room with soot and pieces of unburned soot-wood. I found it in candle-holders, I found it in vases, I found it in my couch, I found it EVERYWHERE! This is where I get to the post title- Why do we need video baby monitors for our newborns? They don’t move. They are in their cribs, nice and cozy. It is the toddlers and preschoolers that we need to keep a constant eye on. I am seriously thinking that I need to buy a video baby monitor for my living room to set up in my nursery, so that I can always keep an eye on that chimney sweep!
