The best gift we ever got was our pair of Wahl clippers. My 3 year old son has never had a professional hair cut, but he always looks well coiffed thanks to my husband and I. In the summer we buzz him short, but I am interested in growing his hair out a little for winter. The problem with this idea is that he has a double crown which makes for sticking up hair on both sides of the top of his head. So, I wanted to find out how to cut the sides and the back shorter than the top in a gradual manner (not in a mushroom cut). I ventured all over the internet and found what I was looking for on the Wahl website:
Fades
When doing fades or tapering, use the guide combs. For a close cut, start with one of the smaller guide combs. Hold the clipper upside down and trim. For a slightly longer cut, use a longer guide comb and run the clipper blades right along the cutting surface.
