My first son slept with my husband and I from about 8 months of his life until he was about 2 years old. By the end of this "family bed" arrangement I was 7 months pregnant and tired of sharing my bed with the wiggly worm that I call my first born. I couldn't take the knee in the back and random punch to the face any more- I was very pregnant and having problems sleeping as it were. We tried everything ( a new, fancy TRAIN big boy bed, bribes, you name it) to get him out of our bed long before this. However, nothing worked UNTIL we made him his own big boy ROOM. We knew we had to move him into another room as the new baby was coming. We decided to dress his room up instead of redoing the baby's room as it was still in A-1 shape from baby #1. This is our son's big boy room- or 1 part of it.
It took forever, but it was well worth it as he made the transition smoothly within the 1st night...
THIS is where my story goes awry! I VOWED that my 2nd baby would NEVER ( I mean EVER) sleep with us. I preached to all my friends about how not to form bad habits with their babies, and that I would be much more diligent this time around. I, obviously, had forgotten how sleep deprived I could become and how difficult it is to soothe a sick baby because this is week 2 of me sharing my bed with my 10 month old. He is a poor sleeper, has been from day one. He doesn't nap in the mornings and naps for 30 minutes in the afternoons. He was waking up 5-7 times a night until 2 weeks ago. Now he wakes up 2ce. Having him beside me is ridding me of sleep deprivation and although I will be kicking myself down the road, right now it is working for me!

I’ve always been a co-sleeper… not by choice though. With my son it was because my husband worked nights, with my daughter it was due to her heart condition. Now, my son is 7 and sleeps in his room, but my daughter is 19 months and STILL in my bed.
We got her a princess toddler bed and tried to make it exciting… UGH she’s still with me.

One of the big lessons in parenting- never say never.
Redoing big brother’s room before the baby comes is a great idea- helps to make him feel so special and grown up! Thanks for sharing!
You are so right; when it comes to little ones, NEVER say never! Thanks, Lisa!
