I received this as an email and thought it to be very interesting; I will share

WATER 

#1. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated.
(Likely applies to half the world population)

#2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak
that it is mistaken for hunger.

#3. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one’s metabolism as 3%.

#4. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs
for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of
Washington study.

#5. Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.

#6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of
water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain
for up to 80% of sufferers.

#7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term
memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on
the computer screen or on a printed page.

#8. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of
colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast

COKE 

#1. In many states the highway patrol carries
two gallons of Coke in the trunk to remove blood from
the highway after a car accident.

#2. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of Coke
and it will be gone in two days..

#3. To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the
toilet bowl and let the ‘real thing’ sit for one hour,
then flush clean. The citric acid in Coke removes
stains from vitreous china.

#4. To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers:
Rub the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of Reynolds
Wrap aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola.

#5. To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour
a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble
away the corrosion.

#6. To loosen a rusted bolt: Apply a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola
to the rusted bolt for several minutes.

#7. To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola into
the baking pan, wrap the ham in aluminum foil, and bake..
Thirty minutes before ham is finished, remove the foil, allowing the drippings to mix
with the Coke for a sumptuous brown gravy.

#8. To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of Coke
into the load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run
through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola will help loosen
grease stains It will also clean road haze from your
windshield.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION: 

#1. The active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid..
It will dissolve a nail in about four days. Phosphoric
acid also leaches calcium from bones and is a major
contributor to the rising increase of osteoporosis..

#2. To carry Coca-Cola syrup! (the concentrate) the
commercial trucks must use a hazardous Material place
cards reserved for highly corrosive materials.

#3. The distributors of Coke have been using it to clean
engines of the trucks for about 20 years! Now the question is, would you like a glass of water?

This recipe is my Mother-in-Law’s. I had never tried hamburger soup until about 18 years ago when I met my husband. Now it is our household favorite. All you need is a pound of burger, beef bouillon, died tomatoes,  macaroni noodles, onion and carrots.

1 lb fried hamburger

3 large carrots

1/4 sweet onion or 1/2 cooking onion

1 can diced tomatoes

1 cup uncooked macaroni noodles

Boil 6 cups of water and add beef bouillon until flavourful. Add hamburger, tomatoes and raw veggies. Once veggies are cooked, add noodles and cook until al dente. Freezes well.

With 2 boys aged 4 and 6, days seem to fly by at an exceptionally slow rate; if you are a parent or guardian of any type, you know exactly what I mean by this. I cannot believe when one year ends and a new one begins or when one of my sons adds another birthday to his age, but each day just goes by at a turtle’s pace. This is the last month that I will only have one boy at school; come July both my boys will be enjoying the summer before another school year starts. My baby will be leaving his mama to join his older brother at school. I cannot believe it.  My heart aches, but at the same time I am thrilled. No more babies; no more babies at home…well, mine anyway, I do daycare out of my home, but other people’s children are a totally different story…there is rarely the talking back, the arguing, whining etc. A new era for our family- 2 school aged children.

Wow, this post was supposed to be about summer activities and plans, not ramblings from a crazed mama:) I would like you to post about healthy activities for school aged children, so that we can all enjoy, and get through this thing called summer vacation (alive).

My mom has been very helpful by passing along all of these home remedies and uses for different items found around the home. Here is another. 5 very handy uses for coffee filters that you can often find at the dollar store.

-Cover bowls or dishes when cooking in the microwave

-Clean windows and mirrors as filters are lint free

-Cushion china to prevent scratches

-Absorb moisture in cast iron skillets to prevent rust

This is truly amazing for  a 3-8 year old (4-9 year old manufacturer recommended age). The games are educational, colourful and attractive to kids;  the touchscreen makes them feel like “dad”. Tried this recipe tonight with grilled pork chops cut 1 inch thick. Delicious; even my 5 year old enjoyed the broccoli and asked for more! I also found out what that groovy little pan with the holes on the side was that I had in my kitchen for years! Thanks to Taste of Home for the following grilled broccoli recipe and the pan knowledge!!!

 Ingredients

• 6 cups fresh broccoli spears
• 2 tablespoons plus 1-1/2 teaspoons lemon juice
• 2 tablespoons olive oil
• 1/4 teaspoon salt
• 1/4 teaspoon pepper
• 3/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
• Shaved Parmesan cheese and purple basil leaves, optional

Directions

• Place broccoli in a large bowl. Combine the lemon juice, oil, salt and pepper; drizzle over broccoli and toss to coat. Let stand for 30 minutes.
• Toss broccoli, then drain marinade. Place cheese in a large resealable plastic bag. Add broccoli, a few pieces at a time, shake to coat.
• Using long-handled tongs, moisten a paper towel with cooking oil and lightly coat the grill rack. Prepare grill for indirect heat using a drip pan. Place broccoli over drip pan and grill, covered, over indirect medium heat for 8-10 minutes on each side or until crisp-tender. If desired, garnish with shaved Parmesan and fresh basil. Yield: 6 servings.
