I have never been totally against letting my children watch TV. I believe that if you allow them to watch educational shows appropriate for their age, then no harm can be done. My almost 3 year old has the TV on the “Treehouse” channel for about 4 hours a day. It is on as a background and he picks and chooses which shows or parts of shows he wishes to watch. It does not get in the way of his ability to use his imagination, he learns things that I do not think to teach, and, I believe, it is the reason why he started to speak so well at one. His favorites include:
Max and Ruby, Backyardigans, Barney, Toopie and Binoo, and Mighty Machines
These all have educational value and I do not feel any mother’s guilt for allowing him this privelege.
